School days
are here again!
One word
to sum up: malas! Hahahaha
Yeah, u
heard me right. I’m just not fully in my groove yet, to be honest. Last week
was terrible. Every day at school I prayed hard that school would be over soon.
How bad that was, huh, you tell me.. this week slowly but surely things are
getting a lil better, apatah lagi I, as the sports secretary, have to prepare
everything for the upcoming mini marathon, slotted for next Friday. I’ve sent
out letters to the respective parties, and this week just making sure that all
the materials needed are steady and ready.
Lacking
the number of English Language teachers this year, I have to teach an extra
class than usual. Complaining? Maybe, maybe, but not really. These couple of
weeks is the time to adjust myself to the students ability and needs, and vice
versa. Well, that’s how thing goes every new year, kan.
Can you
believe it, I’m into my thirtieth year as a teacher come the end of 2018? Lama tuuu.
Tua, beb! Hahaha guess I’ll quit soon. But not too soon coz I have to consider
the financial aspect since all my children are studying still. Though in all
honesty, God provides everything, so why worry? Emm, not everyone is able to
comprehend or grasp that concept. They do know it, but to understand it? You need
to put your trust in God solidly 100%. As for now I’ll continue teaching perhaps
for a few more years. Perhaps. Time will tell.
Still talking
about school. The other day if I had read it right, the education minister
mentioned there would not be any more segregation among students. This would be
done to make students feel equal and learn from each other. Ideally, that is a
good thing. But the reality is, if you do not segregate them students, I’m
afraid the weak students will become weaker and the good students will be
bored. This is not something baseless. Unless you refer to boarding schools and
schools in the big cities where most students are equal more or less, this
concept is fine. But if you go to the city outskirt or schools in the remote
area, many students lack the basics: reading writing and counting. I sincerely
hope the officers at the ministry level or at least the state level, go down to
those schools and stay there for a month or so in order to get a better and
clearer picture of the situation on the ground. Rather than sitting in the
ivory tower making statements and coming up with absurd policy, it is wiser to feel
what the teachers and students there face every day. Talking is cheap, you
know.
Another
matter is not celebrating students’ achievement in the exam, be it upsr or pt3
or spm. The logic given is that the weak students would not feel bad or
inferior if schools do not celebrate it. Okay, fine. But what about those students who have strived hard and
burned the midnight oil in order to achieve flying colours result and making
the school proud at the same time? Don’t they deserve any recognition or
acknowledgement for the sacrifice they have made? It’s difficult to be fair, to
fulfill everyone’s wishes. But I do hope the education ministry especially the
minister can come up with a win-win solution.
So much
for my thoughts, right. As if those fellow sitting up there would read this
stuff. But I know the Big Guy up there is reading this : )
