chopsticks

perhaps nothing is more symbolic of Asian culture than a humble pair of chopsticks. in mandarin, they are known as kuai-zi - "quick little fellows" or "nimble ones". but in english we say chopsticks. i get the 'sticks' part, but how did 'chop' get into the picture?

according to the Oxford Dictionary the word 'chopsticks' first appeared during the late 17th century. 'chop' is pidgin english for quick - as in the phrase 'chop-chop', which means quickly.

kisahnya..
